Due to being exposed over long periods to extremely complex conditions such as sea winds, waves, and vortex-induced vibrations, there are very high requirements regarding the impact toughness, fracture toughness, and fatigue resistance of the materials. Previously, only a few companies around the world **possessed the manufacturing technology for this product, and all of them used seamless steel tube processes; this became one of the key obstacles hindering the development of deep-sea energy resources in our country. To reverse this unfavorable situation, Ansteel Group relied on the \"National Key Laboratory of Marine Equipment Metal Materials and Their Applications\". Building on the research conducted by the Iron and Steel Research Institute regarding mechanisms for enhancing plasticity and toughness as well as fatigue resistance, it formed a research and development team comprising representatives from companies such as CNPC and CNOOC. This team succeeded in overcoming the challenges related to the precise design of compositions and the control of microstructural properties in thick-walled, high-strength pipeline materials. A comprehensive manufacturing process was developed, covering steel plate preparation, shaping, and welding. As a result, X65MO-grade steel plates with a thickness of 32 mm were created, from which straight-seam welded pipes with a diameter of Φ559 mm were manufactured. Based on a comprehensive evaluation by **reputable testing institutions of the strength, toughness, and full-scale fatigue performance of the steel pipes, the key performance indicators of this product have reached the technical level of similar seamless pipe products produced by internationally leading companies. This marks the world’s first use of high-performance, large-diameter steel catenary riser welded pipe materials and manufacturing technologies. Building on the successful development of specialized steel plates, the 5500mm wide and thick plate production line at the Bayuquan branch passed the certification evaluation conducted by Steel Research NAK Co., Ltd., becoming the only wide and thick plate production line in China to achieve this certification. This achievement further strengthens Ansteel’s research and development capabilities as well as its leading position in the field of key metal materials for marine equipment. It also provides a solid material foundation for China to accelerate the development of deep-sea oil and gas resources, advance its strategy to become a maritime power, and ensure energy security. Furthermore, it helps push China’s high-end marine engineering materials to the international forefront, offering a new Chinese solution for deep-water oil and gas exploration worldwide.
