During the design, installation, and inspection of pipelines, various minor issues that have been overlooked or not taken into account are often discovered. These common minor hazards at the site are indeed easy to overlook! According to the SH3012-2011 standards, gate valves installed on horizontal pipelines indeed cannot have their valve stems oriented vertically downward. In fact, there are quite a few risks associated with this potential hazard: First, if the filler leaks, the medium will drip straight down, not only contaminating the pipeline platforms but also posing safety risks due to the toxic, flammable, and explosive nature of such media ； Secondly, there is limited operating space when turning valves on and off or during inspections on a daily basis; in rainy or snowy weather, water accumulation can easily seep into the valve stem packing gland, accelerating corrosion and reducing the sealing performance. It’s not difficult to make the necessary adjustments – simply adjust the valve stem to point vertically upward, horizontally, or at a 45° angle. When making these adjustments, be sure to take into account the installation of the insulation layer as well as the available space for future operations, so that normal use isn’t affected after the adjustments are made. Such details need to be paid close attention to, as they are related to the stable operation of the device.
