Recently, the caustic soda market has been in high demand, while sodium carbonate waste is in short supply; to turn waste into value, discussions are taking place on how to convert sodium carbonate produced during manufacturing processes into sodium hydroxide! # , , &
It is sent to the brine processing unit; during the brine purification process, sodium carbonate is needed to remove calcium ions, and it reacts with them to produce calcium carbonate precipitate and sodium chloride (hydrochloric acid is also added to adjust the pH). Sodium chloride, when subjected to electrolysis, yields sodium hydroxide. I’m not sure if it will work
Can this thing change at will? Converting some sodium carbonate waste into caustic soda might result in costs that exceed the value of the caustic soda itself.
Use the causticization method: add calcium hydroxide, which is converted into caustic soda while producing nanocalcium carbonate as a by-product; however, an ample supply of inexpensive quicklime is required
Producing it using conventional processes may not be economical, and the quality is also difficult to guarantee.
Adding calcium chloride results in a simple reaction, but it leads to high levels of impurities and is not economical
It is sent to the brine processing section, where sodium carbonate is required during brine purification to remove calcium ions. If considering the addition of calcium hydroxide, then use the supernatant from the acetylene plant! (Just a suggestion)
