We deal in titanium materials. Some of our clients have inquired that titanium is not suitable for use with hydrochloric acid; they are looking for materials for equipment and pipelines that can withstand temperatures of 100 degrees and concentrations of 30-40%
Graphite equipment is viable; the hydrochloric acid extraction equipment used by my company is made of graphite. It is also mentioned online that tantalum can be used, but such equipment is expensive, and more importantly, I have no experience with it.
Titanium is not suitable for long-term use in hydrochloric acid; it’s fine for temporary use. High-temperature hydrochloric acid can use either glass-lined steel or graphite, but it seems that there are no pipes made of graphite. When the operating temperature is below 60 degrees (occasionally above but not exceeding 90 degrees), it is more convenient to use CPVC with a Teflon lining
If cost is not a concern, tantalum, gold, and platinum can be used. If cost is a factor, it is still advisable to use graphite material as suggested by the moderator on the 2nd floor. Additionally, a tetrafluorinated material can be used.
At 100 degrees, fluorinated lining is sufficient.
Equipment: graphite, enamel, or PTFE-lined options are all suitable. For pipes, glass-lined or PTFE-lined types can be used; there’s no issue with temperature
The hydrochloric acid concentration should not be higher than 20%, and the temperature should not exceed 110 degrees; fiberglass can be used in such conditions
For metal materials, Hastelloy can be used, but it’s extremely expensive.
