In salt chemical enterprises, due to the high content of ions such as calcium, magnesium, and iron in brine, scaling such as calcium sulfate and calcium carbonate forms easily. In particular, calcium sulfate scaling results in a dense scale layer that has a significant impact on heat transfer performance; it is difficult to clean, and this can affect production. These are the scaling components in a salt industry enterprise; 88.69% of the scaling in plate heat exchangers is calcium sulfate scaling, as shown in the image below: https://pica.zhimg.com/v2-65fc3a00f21c63b5f31bf227b381d5b4_1440w.jpg The scaling in the heat exchangers is quite severe – it may take anywhere from 3 to 5 days, or even up to 1 month, before the heat exchangers need to be cleaned, which requires significant investment in terms of labor and resources. To this end, microwave scale inhibition and removal equipment was installed on the heat exchanger to prevent scaling; the installation diagram of this equipment is shown here: https://pic4.zhimg.com/v2-14b143a71366f89d5b5a83f2ff4a336b_1440w.jpg After 2 months of operation, data analysis revealed that scaling inside the heat exchanger was effectively prevented, the degree of scaling continued to decrease, and the heat exchange efficiency improved over time. It is recommended to use long-pulse ultrasonic devices for calcium sulfate scale inhibition. You can check my post; it’s not ordinary ultrasound.
