Acetylene is only slightly soluble in water. Furthermore, during the purification of acetylene to remove impurities, although there are situations where it comes into contact with water, the amount of acetylene dissolved in the water is very small. In the wet calcium carbide process for acetylene production, the acetylene content in the overflow slurry is relatively high. The acetylene in these slurries exists mainly in the form of dissolved acetylene and unreacted calcium carbide nuclei, with concentrations generally ranging from 250 to 400 mg/L.
