The chlorine gas generated at the anode in the electrolyzer dissolves in the saltwater. Since sodium ions in the saltwater pass through the ion exchange membrane into the cathode chamber, the concentration of the saltwater remains unsaturated; the concentration of the saltwater at the outlet of the ion exchange membrane electrolyzer is around 200 g/L. The chlorine gas produced by the electrolyzer, along with the brine, flows out through the outlet hose of the unit cell. At the gas-liquid separator located in the main outlet pipe of the electrolyzer, separation takes place: the gaseous chlorine enters the chlorine main pipe, while most of the liquid phase goes into the dechlorination tower, where the chlorine dissolved in the brine is removed. The brine is then reprocessed to increase its concentration, and a small portion of this brine together with the purified brine is mixed again and fed into the anode of the electrolyzer for electrolysis.
