However, one disadvantage of ammonium chloride is that the aqueous solution is acidic, and long-term application will cause soil damage. It is acidified, and in terms of people's awareness of use, it is difficult to compare with nitrogen-containing fertilizers such as urea and ammonium bicarbonate, making its price much lower than that of nitrogen-containing fertilizers such as urea and ammonium bicarbonate with the same nitrogen content. It is more used as a raw material for compound fertilizers, and the price has been tepid. On the other hand, in recent years, the prices of raw materials such as crude oil, coal, natural gas, and electricity have risen rapidly, which has caused a significant increase in the cost of synthetic ammonia. Coupled with the low price of ammonium chloride, the combined alkali method does not have a cost advantage over the ammonia-alkali method, and both are on the verge of losing money.

The main advantage of joint alkali is that it can resume the production of ammonium chloride, which improves the utilization rate of raw materials and eliminates the problem of alkali residue emissions. However, there are also many shortcomings in joint alkali. For example, the long process flow makes equipment investment relatively high. In addition, the salt content and particle size of soda ash products are not as good as those of ammonia alkali.

The overall product quality of ammonia alkali is better, but the quality of joint alkali for vacuum salt production is not much different from that of ammonia alkali.

The biggest advantage of the combined alkali method is the high utilization rate of raw materials, the utilization rate of sodium chloride can reach more than 96%, and the emission of less pollutants. The utilization rate of sodium chloride in the ammonia-alkali method is about 74%.
