At present in China, benzoyl chloride is produced through batch reactions in reactors, using trichlorobenzene and benzoic acid as raw materials under the catalysis of ferric chloride or zinc chloride; the amount of residue resulting from these reactions is about 2–3%, and this residue consists of high-chlorine tar. Due to the high chlorine content, the cost of treating such hazardous waste is very high, which is why no one is willing to take it on; A new synthesis technique has now been successfully tested: trichlorobenzene and benzoic acid are mixed in the theoretical ratio, heated to a liquid state, and then continuously fed into a specially designed reactor. The use of a solid composite catalyst ensures efficient and stable reactions, resulting in improved product quality. The key advantage is that this method enables continuous production with almost no residual waste; the reaction mixture only needs to be decolorized after processing. After several batches of testing, the catalyst lost almost no weight, allowing it to be used repeatedly over a long period of time.
