The project for the recycling of waste salt in the Northwest region has commenced. Recently, the technical renovation project for waste salt treatment carried out by Lanzhou Hewei Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. started construction. This project is the first demonstration project in the Northwest region centered on \"the recycling of waste salt + a closed-loop chlor-alkali industry chain\". The total investment in the project is 1.137 billion yuan. It is capable of processing 200,000 tons of industrial waste salt per year, producing 160,000 tons of high-quality chlorine and 200,000 tons of caustic soda annually, to meet the needs of chemical enterprises in the industrial park and the northwest region. The project utilizes advanced zero-gap plasma membrane caustic soda electrolyzer technology to comprehensively utilize saline waste; through specific processing, it produces high-quality chlorine, caustic soda, and other chemical products. These products supply stable chemical raw materials to over 100 enterprises in the park that operate in fields such as pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and new materials. This system meets 50% of the park’s demand for chlor-alkali products, enabling internal resource circulation and reducing companies’ external procurement costs by more than 20%. The waste heat generated during the synthesis of hydrochloric acid is reused for the company’s production processes, resulting in a savings of 14,000 tons of standard coal per year; sodium sulfate produced as a by-product of salt treatment is used to manufacture baking soda for sale, thereby achieving full utilization of resources.
