I’m new to this forum. Next to my place, there’s a small workshop where they use several iron pots to heat some liquid substances until they thicken; afterwards, the mixture is pumped out and sliced before being cooled. According to the workers, it’s caustic soda… Could someone please explain: what are the main types of soda ash products? What is light alkali? What is heavy soda ash? What product of soda ash is solid caustic soda? What’s the market demand for the caustic soda flakes produced next door? Thank you!
The soda ash products are mainly heavy ash (heavy-duty soda ash) and light ash (light-duty soda ash). If you’re referring to downstream products, then there are many more varieties. Light ash refers to Na2CO3 produced by calcining heavy soda (NaHCO3) in a calciner. Heavy-duty soda ash is essentially a mixture of water and sodium carbonate; it is produced from light ash in a heavy ash processing plant. Regarding the caustic soda flakes you mentioned, if I’m not mistaken, it should be sodium hydroxide.
