Wuhuan Company signs contract for Xinxiangyun phosphogypsum-based sulfuric acid production project

In 2026, the 25th National \"Safety Production Month\" will focus on the importance of safety for everyone and the need for everyone to know how to respond in emergency situations, as well as on identifying and addressing potential risks and hazards. On May 29th, Sinochem Fifth Ring Company signed an engineering design contract for the Hubei Xinxiangyun project, which aims to produce 2 million tons per year of cement clinker as a by-product of sulfuric acid production from phosphogypsum, with Hubei Xiangyun (Group) Chemical Co., Ltd. and Tianjin Cement Industry Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. Once completed, this project will be able to process 2 million tons of phosphogypsum per year, produce 800,000 tons of sulfuric acid, and generate 1 million tons of cement clinker as a by-product. This will help to address the problem of phosphogypsum accumulation and reduce the pressure on the ecological environment of the Yangtze River. 　　The project is located in the Makou Chemical Industry Park in Huanggang City. The construction activities include the pre-treatment of phosphogypsum, the calcination of phosphogypsum, an acid production unit using flue gas, as well as various supporting facilities. The project adopts a recycling technology route of \"phosphogypsum – sulfuric acid – cement clinker\", integrating advanced processes such as suspended calcination, central-tube converters, and low-temperature waste heat recovery. Through high-temperature decomposition, phosphogypsum is converted into sulfuric acid and cement clinker, with a sulfur resource recovery rate of over 98%. For every ton of sulfuric acid and 1 ton of cement clinker produced, more than 2 tons of phosphogypsum can be consumed, resulting in an excellent capacity for waste utilization. 　　Wuhuan Company stated that it will continue to work on technological advancements, aiming to move more technologies for the comprehensive utilization of phosphogypsum from the \"laboratory\" stage to actual production lines.
