Recently, the first-phase production line of Sichuan Tianhua Group’s polycarbonate (PC) film project successfully completed its trial operation, with the first production line with a capacity of 6,000 tons achieving stable mass production. The production line is capable of steadily manufacturing flame-retardant modified PC products in 2.5mm and 3.0mm sizes. The first batch of products produced met the requirements set by two authoritative third-party testing institutions, SGS and CTI Huace; all performance indicators were within spec, enabling these products to be launched on the market in bulk. It is understood that the total investment in the Sichuan Tianhua PC film project amounts to 200 million yuan, with construction carried out in phases. Once the project is fully completed and put into operation, it will have an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons of high-end PC films. Unlike other companies in the industry that rely on purchasing raw materials to produce films, Tianhua Group has its own production facility capable of manufacturing 100,000 tons of polycarbonate raw materials per year. By taking advantage of the cost and quality benefits associated with its own PC raw materials, the company has managed to establish an integrated industrial chain that covers the production of PC raw materials, their modification, and the manufacturing of high-performance functional films. In the future, companies will continue to focus on research and development of modified PC film technologies, working to improve the flame-retardant, weather-resistant, and insulating properties of these products. They will also expand their applications in areas such as photovoltaic energy storage, automotive electronics, and precision instruments. Thanks to the advantages of its integrated supply chain, polycarbonate material, with its high impact resistance, heat resistance, and insulating/ flame-retardant properties, serves as an essential core material in the fields of new energy and high-end electronics. Modified PC films, due to the strict fire safety standards required, have long been considered a high-value product category, and demand for them continues to rise. For a long time, the domestic market for high-end flame-retardant PC films has relied on imports for some of its high-end supply, and the industry faces issues such as a fragmented supply chain and uncontrollable raw material costs. Currently, China’s chemical industry is accelerating the phasing out of low-end, extensive production capacities, with high-end development, sophistication, and functionalization serving as the clear guiding principles for industrial transformation. In fields such as structural components for new energy power batteries, casings for consumer electronics, and insulating components for energy storage devices, the requirements regarding the flame retardancy, temperature resistance, and strength of materials are becoming increasingly stringent, which in turn expands the market potential for PC films with high safety performance.
