Takahashi Petrochemical Supplies Environmentally Friendly Low-Sulfur Petroleum Coke to the Market for the First Time 2025-08-15 On August 12, Takahashi Petrochemical produced 3,000 tons of low-sulfur petroleum coke in a continuous manner for the first time, which was then shipped to the market. The sulfur content of this low-sulfur petroleum coke is less than 3%, meeting the 3C quality standards. Compared with the high-sulfur petroleum coke produced over the years, it offers better environmental benefits and economic value, further facilitating the optimization of the product structure in the company’s transition from using oil-based products to specialty products, thereby enhancing the company’s efficiency. Against the backdrop of a green and low-carbon economy, high-sulfur petroleum coke, which is primarily used as fuel, is facing pressure; the rigid demand in the fuel industry is shifting towards low-sulfur petroleum coke or alternative fuels. Low-sulfur petroleum coke has a wide range of applications, with end-users including industries such as aluminum electrolysis, new energy vehicles, and steel manufacturing. During the production process, Takahashi Petrochemical develops crude oil blending plans by covering both high-sulfur and low-sulfur crude oil processing systems; it calculates the sulfur content of raw materials with precision using the sulfur transfer coefficient. During production, the oil tanks are carefully managed to enable separate storage and processing, and the plant implements detailed procedures for the storage and transportation of low-sulfur petroleum coke products. To address the issue of shared conveyor belts between the two coking units, measures such as emptying the coking chambers and storing the products in separate piles are taken to completely prevent cross-contamination between high-sulfur and low-sulfur petroleum coke, thereby ensuring product quality.
