What are everyone’s views and insights regarding water supply and drainage engineering in the field of civil engineering? This includes the basic and specialized courses offered in this area, as well as their impact on one’s studies, work, and daily life. Feel free to share your thoughts!
I’m not a professional, but I work in water supply and drainage. It seems that not many people in this field end up working at private petrochemical plants; is it easier to get a job there?
The fields of work are also quite diverse, including municipal engineering, water treatment plants, sewage purification centers, as well as the construction industry and companies specializing in industrial water treatment and purification
As water resources become increasingly scarce, greater attention is being paid to water supply and drainage systems in enterprises. Especially during the summer, when water supply is strained, the water treatment facilities operate at full capacity almost every day to ensure the ongoing production of the entire factory; such departments often receive rewards and praise for their efforts. From a professional’s perspective, since this field differs from other technical fields, many issues require the leadership to consult professionals in order to get clear answers; therefore, it is only natural that it receives attention ； The key professionals are among the chief engineers, and their compensation is quite good.
The water supply and drainage field in chemical enterprises is quite important; no matter who is in charge, this field and the related systems need to function properly. The process engineering field cannot replace it, so although process engineering is the dominant field, when discussing issues related to water, it is necessary to listen to the opinions of those in the water supply and drainage field, and those opinions are important. Most companies have water treatment workshops or water supply facilities, as well as access routes for personnel to reach the responsible specialists; the compensation offered is also good. As for design institutes, there’s no need to say more – it is said that the first people in those institutes to own private cars were those from the water supply and drainage department; it’s not clear whether this is true. At the current stage, as water scarcity worsens, there is an increasing emphasis on water recycling; design institutes, research institutions, patent holders, and enterprises are all increasing their investment in this field. In short, this major has a good future outlook.
There are great opportunities in this field of study, with a wide range of employment prospects. During the four years of university, one has to take quite a number of courses: drawing, building materials, and the three branches of mechanics (theoretical mechanics, material mechanics, structural mechanics) go without saying.
