When the content of suspended particles in the raw water is less than 50 mg/L, contact coagulation or filtration can be used; that is, after adding a coagulant, the mixture is pumped or delivered through pipes directly into a filter, with multi-media filters being commonly used nowadays. 2. When the carbonate hardness in the raw water is high, lime can be added for pre-softening while removing turbidity. Of course, the more commonly used methods at present are the use of cation exchange resins or the addition of scale inhibitors. 3. When the organic content in the raw water is high, treatment methods such as chlorination, coagulation, and clarification filtration can be employed. If these methods still do not meet the requirements for the water fed into subsequent processes, additional measures to remove organic substances, such as activated carbon filtration, can be used. 4. When the free chlorine level in the raw water exceeds the subsequent water intake standards, treatment methods such as activated carbon filtration or the addition of sodium sulfite can be employed. 5. If reverse osmosis or EDI equipment is used in the subsequent treatment processes, an additional precision filtration unit should be installed before the raw water enters such equipment, as a protective measure for it. 6. If subsequent processes require silicon in a colloidal state of high quality, magnesium oxide can be added along with lime to achieve the removal of silicon. 7. When the iron and manganese content in the raw water is high, aeration and filtration units should be added to remove iron and manganese.
