On June 19, the first large-scale key equipment for the Maoming Petrochemical’s refining transformation and upgrading project, namely Tower No. 1 for propylene production, was safely transported to the construction site of Unit No. 3 for cracking
It is reported that the No. 1 propylene tower being transported this time is one of the core equipment among the “four major towers” of the project, and the combination of the transport vehicle and the tower can be regarded as a “road giant”: with a total length of 68 meters, a width of 9 meters, a height of 9.5 meters, and a total weight of over 700 tons, its transportation poses extreme challenges. At 22:00 on June 9, the transport convoy set off officially from Maoming Shuidong Port. The total transportation distance is about 26 kilometers, and the route is complex. The convoy sets off from Shuidong Port, passing through Nanhai Avenue, Haiyang Avenue, Zhicheng First Road, Industrial Avenue, and Rhein Avenue. After 13 hours of non-stop travel day and night, the first large-scale piece of equipment was safely and accurately delivered into the Mao Ming Petrochemical Plant area at 11:30 on June 10. The Project Management Department of Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical Company and Sinopec Shipping Company formed a joint escort team to follow the shipment throughout the process and monitor its status in real time. Through careful organization and 11 days of continuous effort, at 17:00 on June 19, the heavy equipment was successfully delivered to the site of Unit 3 cracking plant.
Project Overview: Project Name: Maoming Petrochemical Refining Transformation and Upgrading sowie Ethylene Quality Improvement Project. Project Investment: Total investment of 3,007,403 million yuan. Location of Construction: Maoming High-Tech Industrial Park and Maonan Petrochemical Industrial Park. Construction Period: 36 months. Contents of Project Construction: Refining Transformation and Upgrading: While maintaining an annual crude oil processing capacity of 18 million tons, in line with the principle of \"reducing oil production and increasing chemical products,\" four sets of facilities, including one for catalytic cracking with an annual capacity of 3 million tons, will be built using Sinopec’s latest proprietary technologies. After the project is implemented, a chemical-based refining process centered on \"catalytic cracking + base oil upgrading\" will be adopted, reducing the yield of refined products from 50.2% to 39.8% in order to maximize the production of ethylene feedstock and chemical products. Ethylene capacity upgrade: Utilizing independently developed technologies, the ethylene production capacity was increased from 1 million tons per year to 1.64 million tons per year. This involved building 12 facilities, including an ethylene plant with a capacity of 1 million tons per year and a plant for producing high-density polyethylene with a capacity of 400,000 tons per year, along with the necessary utility systems and auxiliary facilities. The facility includes: a modified catalytic cracking unit with a capacity of 3 million tons per year, along with supporting units for alkylation, MTBE production, hydroprocessing of distillate oils, and hydroprocessing of eco-friendly rubber oils and wax paste/wax-free oils ; The ethylene production capacity will be increased from 1 million tons per year to 1.64 million tons per year, and 10 chemical processing units will be built to support the ethylene production, including: a 500,000-ton-per-year #1 pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation unit, a 300,000-ton-per-year #2 aromatic extraction unit, a 140,000-ton-per-year #3 butadiene extraction unit, a 400,000-ton-per-year #2 full-density polyethylene unit, a 300,000-ton-per-year #2 ethylene oxide unit, a 200,000-ton-per-year #4 polypropylene unit, a 300,000-ton-per-year #5 polypropylene unit, a 240,000-ton-per-year hydrogen peroxide unit, a 300,000-ton-per-year propylene oxide unit, and an 500,000-ton-per-year ABS unit. Among them, the 1# pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation unit is reconstructed in a different location, while the remaining 9 units are newly built.
