The bottom of the first gasifier in the Shanxi Jinfeng renovation project has been installed. Recently, the bottom of the first pure-oxygen continuous gasifier in this renovation project was accurately placed in position. Once put into operation, this furnace bottom will be equipped with an efficient waste heat recovery system, which will work in synergy with the newly built 30,000 m³/h air separation unit. Once all 12 new furnaces are in use, they will be able to replace the existing 32 older gasification furnaces. While maintaining an annual production capacity of 360,000 tons of ammonia alcohol and 520,000 tons of urea, this setup will enable a 18% reduction in coal consumption per year, as well as a reduction of over 120,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. It will thus serve as a model for the upgrading of old coal chemical plants in Shanxi Province.
The Gas Production Energy-Saving and Environmental Protection Improvement and Associated Transformation Project of Shanxi Jinfeng Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. is located in Macun Industrial Park, Gaoping Economic and Technological Development Zone, Jincheng City. The total investment amounts to approximately 730 million yuan, and it includes the following key elements: Project scale and investment – The total investment for this project is 727.7412 million yuan, of which 199 million yuan is allocated to environmental protection measures. The construction scope includes building 12 new pure-oxygen continuous gasification units (10 in operation and 2 as backups) to replace the existing 32 fixed-bed batch gasification units, constructing a new air separation unit with a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters per hour, and upgrading the coal gas purification system and the zero-discharge wastewater treatment system. Key renovation aspects: Gasification system – After replacing the gasification furnace with a new model, the production capacity remains unchanged at 360,000 tons of amino alcohol and 520,000 tons of urea per year. Optimization of energy structure: Dismantle 4 coal-fired boilers with a capacity of 35 tons per hour, and build 2 new circulating fluidized bed boilers with a capacity of 90 tons per hour ； Shut down the semi-water gas holder and the waste heat recovery unit for purge gas. Automated upgrading: Integrated transformation of production scheduling systems, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS/GDS), monitoring systems (CCTV), etc. Construction Progress: As of August 2025, the first pure oxygen gasifier was lifted into place, marking the entry of the gasification and utility systems sections into a critical construction phase. In September 2025, the project received its construction permit and entered the full construction phase. Led by Jinneng Holding Equipment Manufacturing Group, this project aims to improve energy efficiency through equipment upgrades and process optimization, while also ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
