Latest progress on the construction project of the flexible platform for Sinopec’s pressurized circulating fluidized bed (SFBG) and gas-flow bed (SEBG) biomass gasification technologies. In early winter, cold waves strike. The construction site of the biomass gasification flexible platform project at Sinopec Hunan Petrochemical Co., Ltd. is bustling with activity; the workers are working day and night, putting in extra hours to accelerate the installation of the project’s steel structure components, striving to complete the erection of the main steel structure by the end of November and preparing for the lifting of the first large-scale equipment. At present, the main structure of the third module has been completed; piping with a diameter of 5292.5 inches has been prefabricated, 17 sets of equipment have been installed, and 80% of the steel structure installation has been finished. In light of the current drop in temperatures, the large number of construction sites spread over wide areas, and night-time construction, the caprolactam department, together with the EPC (design, procurement, construction) contractor for the project, Sinopec Ningbo Engineering Co., Ltd., is committed to strict oversight and risk management to ensure the safe and orderly progress of the project construction. The biomass gasification flexible platform construction project of Sinopec Hunan Petrochemical Co., Ltd. utilizes the pressurized circulating fluidized bed (SFBG) and streamized bed (SEBG) biomass gasification technologies independently developed by Sinopec. It involves the construction of a biomass streamized bed gasification unit with a capacity of 100 tons per day, as well as a fluidized bed biomass gasification unit with a capacity of 150 tons per day, thereby creating a flexible testing platform that supports multi-bed and multi-feedstock operations. The project is expected to be mechanically completed by December 30, 2025. Once operational, it will be able to switch flexibly between two gasification technologies for the complete gasification of biomass, with the capacity to process 150 tons of biomass pellets per day and generate 5,700 standard cubic meters of useful gas per hour. The syngas produced will be fed into synthesis units to produce liquid ammonia. This platform not only provides essential engineering validation for the large-scale application of these two technologies, thereby facilitating the utilization of biomass resources in Hunan’s petrochemical industry, but it also helps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 140,000 tons per year, yielding significant environmental benefits.
