[Haichuan Overseas Engineering] Major breakthrough in the Soyo project in Angola: High-pressure above-ground flare successfully ignited with gas supply

Recently, the high-pressure flare in area A10A of the Soyo gas treatment project in Angola, constructed by China National Third Chemical Engineering Construction Company, began operating successfully, marking a key milestone for the project and laying a solid foundation for its official commissioning in 2026. Since the project began, the Angolan company has taken on key tasks such as steel structure construction, equipment installation, pipeline prefabrication and installation, anti-corrosion and insulation work, as well as preliminary testing, thus becoming the main force behind the project’s development. The project team has always adhered to the principle of \"safety first, quality foremost.\" Facing the various challenges posed by the extreme weather conditions in the Suyao area, such as high temperatures, humidity, heavy rainfall, and thunderstorms, they have optimized the construction plans, allocated human, material, and machinery resources in a scientific manner, and created favorable working conditions to ensure the continuity of construction work. During Seben’s global safety audit in 2024, the construction area managed by the Angolan company ranked among the top contractors in Seben’s African region due to its proper on-site planning, complete internal documentation, and effective risk management, earning high praise from the audit team. Thanks to scientific management and technological innovation, the project progress has been continuously accelerated: multiple key milestones were achieved in 2024, and the project entered the commissioning phase successfully in 2025. Key tasks such as the successful power connection for substation SS01, the precise installation of the MEG generators, and the installation of composite pipes in the UNIT199 area were all completed on schedule, earning praise from the client and the general contractor on numerous occasions. The Soyo gas processing project undertakes the important task of extracting associated gases from the Quiluma and Mabocayero shallow-sea gas fields. The onshore natural gas processing plant constructed as part of this project has a designed daily processing capacity of 350 million cubic feet. The processed natural gas will be supplied directly to Angola’s LNG plant and the Soyo combined cycle power plant. Once operational, it will put an end to the reliance of local natural gas processing facilities on associated gas as their sole source of gas, and it holds strategic significance for promoting self-sufficient energy supply in Angola and accelerating the monetization of oil and gas resources. As a benchmark project for Chinese companies to participate in energy infrastructure development in Africa, the partial success of the Suyao gas treatment project not only demonstrates Sanhua Construction’s core competitiveness in large-scale overseas energy projects, but also serves as a vivid example of China and Africa’s joint efforts under the Belt and Road Initiative. As the project moves steadily toward its commissioning goal, the company will continue to leverage its professional expertise to ensure the successful completion of the project, helping Angola establish a more stable energy supply system and writing a new chapter in China-Africa energy cooperation.
