DuPont is expanding its strategic partnerships in China’s XPS insulation board industry, and is actively promoting the development of green, sustainable polymer-based flame retardants. (Shanghai, China, June 24, 2021) DuPont and Fuda Company of Woniushan Energy Saving and Insulation Group, China’s largest producer of polystyrene extruded boards (XPS), signed a strategic cooperation agreement at DuPont’s Shanghai Innovation Center to deepen their collaboration on flame-retardant masterbatches for XPS insulation boards. Previously, DuPont authorized Lanxess, ICL Group, and Shandong Xurui New Materials to produce the BLUEDGE™ (brominated SBS) polymer-based flame retardant for the Chinese market. This new partnership will further expand DuPont’s strategic partnerships within China’s XPS insulation board industry. As a green and sustainable polymeric flame retardant, the BLUEDGE™ (brominated SBS) technology has been approved by multiple **regulatory authorities, thanks to its excellent safety and environmental characteristics. It is widely used around the world as a replacement for HBCD (hexabromocyclododecane) in EPS (extruded polystyrene) and XPS (expanded polystyrene) boards. It will undoubtedly make a positive contribution to China’s efforts to phase out and replace HBCD, which are set to begin at the end of 2021.** At this signing ceremony, Fuda Company of Woniushan Energy-saving and Insulation Group also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Zhuhai Caizhu E-commerce Co., Ltd.; the two parties reached a deep-level partnership regarding the sales and promotion of environmentally friendly flame-retardant masterbatches based on DuPont technology. Meanwhile, the two companies also held the launch ceremony for a new type of eco-friendly flame-retardant masterbatch.
The development of environmentally friendly flame retardants is an ongoing process; domestic manufacturers must catch up.
