Recently, the “Ethane Oxidative Dehydrogenation to Ethylene (ODHE)” technology, jointly developed by the Institute of Catalysis, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Huisheng Engineering, successfully passed the pilot-scale technical evaluation organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. This marks that the technology for the direct catalytic oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane to produce ethylene is now ready for industrial demonstration and commercialization. The experts present agreed that this technology is highly innovative and possesses independent intellectual property rights. The catalyst maintained good catalytic activity even after 1,500 hours of testing in single-tube experiments. Compared to traditional steam cracking technologies, it offers advantages such as higher ethane conversion rates and ethylene yields, a simpler process flow, and significantly reduced carbon emissions. Its technical parameters are at the international leading level, and it meets the conditions for industrial application; therefore, it is recommended to accelerate the process of industrial demonstration.
