The project is divided into two parts: carbon dioxide capture by Qilu Petrochemical, and the utilization and sequestration of carbon dioxide in the Shengli Oilfield. Carbon dioxide from the industrial exhaust gases of Qilu Petrochemical is captured and injected into the underground oil reservoirs of the Shengli Oil Field, where it is used to \"drive out\" crude oil; at the same time, this carbon dioxide is sequestered in place, achieving a win-win situation of reducing carbon emissions while increasing oil production. The project covers geological reserves of approximately 25 million tons, resulting in an annual reduction of carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to that achieved by planting nearly 9 million trees. Based on the calculation that 1 ton of carbon dioxide can extract 0.25 tons of crude oil, the annual increase in crude oil production is of over 200,000 tons. The reporter went to the inflation site. In the capture phase, all equipment is domestically produced. In the oil displacement and sequestration phases, they developed independently China’s first set of fully enclosed, high-efficiency injection equipment, and installed 500 monitoring points to track parameters such as water, soil, and air quality across the entire project, ensuring zero emissions. In light of the characteristics of the low-permeability oil reservoirs in this area, they developed innovative high-pressure mixed-phase CO2 flooding and sequestration technologies, increasing the oil displacement efficiency by 28%. “This breakthrough in engineering practice serves as a model for the development of similar geological reserves amounting to over 10 billion tons across the country. ”Chen Jun, manager of the CCUS project department at Shengli Oilfield, explained.
