On March 26, the inauguration ceremony for the hydrocracking and product refining units of the Jiujiang Petrochemical aromatics and refining upgrade project, which is under the general contracting of Guangzhou Engineering Company, was successfully held at the project site. Pile foundation construction also commenced at the same time, marking the entry of this project into a new phase of actual construction. Once the project is completed and put into operation, it will help to establish a complete industrial chain covering \"refining + aromatics + PTA + PET + end products,\" thereby driving the transformation and upgrading of the petrochemical industry in Jiangxi Province. The project will involve the construction of a new hydrocracking unit with an annual capacity of 2.6 million tons, as well as a product refining unit. The construction scope includes the reaction section (including compressors and hydrogen desulfurization), the distillation section, utility facilities, a desulfurization unit, and a liquefied gas separation unit. Upon completion, the project will help Jiujiang Petrochemical achieve the dual goals of increasing production capacity and reducing pollution by half. It will not only provide strong support for the energy security strategy but also facilitate Jiujiang Petrochemical’s transformation into a green and intelligent petrochemical enterprise. It is understood that in 2024, the petrochemical industry chain in Jiujiang City generated revenue of 122.49 billion yuan, representing a growth rate of 9.3% compared to the previous year ; The total profit reached 3.84 billion yuan, an increase of 13.3% compared to the previous year. Regarding the construction of the Jiujiang Petrochemical 1.5 million tons/year aromatic compounds and refining expansion project, the scope of work includes building a new 1.5 million tons/year aromatic compounds plant, a new 2 million tons/year continuous reforming (including pre-hydrogenation) plant (with a liquefied gas separation unit), a new 2 million tons/year hydrocracking plant; upgrading the existing residue hydrogenation plant to a 2 million tons/year combined-bed residue hydrogenation unit; constructing a new PSA hydrogen production plant with a capacity of 120,000 standard cubic meters per hour; building new product purification facilities; and constructing a new 70,000 tons/year sulfur recovery complex. In addition, existing storage, transportation facilities and utility systems will be built or upgraded as part of this project. The total investment for the project is 1,069,866 million yuan, of which 769,968.5 million yuan is allocated to environmental protection measures, accounting for 7.2% of the total project investment. The 1.5 million tons per year aromatic compounds and refining upgrade project at Jiujiang Petrochemical utilizes Sinopec’s own technologies. Once completed, it will help the company establish a new integrated development model for refining and aromatic compounds, enabling it to move toward a full-industry-chain development model that includes refining, aromatic compounds, PTA, PET, and end products. It will also facilitate the company’s integration of resources along the river, enable the restructuring of the aromatic compounds industry chain, and support its transformation from a fuel-focused enterprise into an integrated petrochemical enterprise. This project will contribute to the creation of a chemical industrial park worth hundreds of billions of yuan in Jiangxi Province, as well as a first-class green and intelligent petroleum refining base in the central region.
