Full Disclosure of Sinopec’s Bio-based PO3G-PTT High-Performance Elastomer Project
Thread Content
On March 6, the full version of the environmental impact assessment report for Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd.’s project on the controlled production of green bio-based PO3G and the development of high-performance PO3G-PTT elastomer products was made public. Project Name: Controlled Preparation of Green Bio-based PO3G and Development of PO3G-PTT High-Performance Elastomer ProductsIndustry Category: C2651 – Manufacturing of Primary Plastics and Synthetic Resins
Project Nature: Renovation
Construction Location: Within the premises of Yihua Company’s Fiber Production Department
Total Investment: The total investment for this project is 47.378 million yuan, of which 1.47 million yuan is allocated to environmental protection measures, accounting for 3.1% of the total investment.
Land Area: 350 square meters
Construction Period: 12 months
Through years of development, Yihua Company currently has a PTA production capacity of 3 million tons, a polyester production capacity of 3.1 million tons per year (including polyester chips, short fibers, hollow fibers, and bottle chips), a ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber production capacity of 3,300 tons per year, a para-aramid production capacity of 1,000 tons per year, a maleic anhydride production capacity of 140,000 tons per year, a melt-blown fabric production capacity of 6,000 tons per year, and a PBT production capacity of 260,000 tons per year. Polypropylene terephthalate (PTT) is synthesized by the polycondensation of terephthalic acid (PTA) and 1,3-propanediol (PDO). PTA, being a common chemical raw material, is available in sufficient quantities at relatively low costs ; PDO raw materials can be produced through chemical synthesis or biological fermentation. The production process involves technical barriers and results in relatively high costs; among them, bio-based PDO has a cost that is about 15% lower than that of petroleum-based PDO. Currently, there is strong demand for PTT worldwide, with high-end, differentiated bio-based PTT in particular facing a supply shortage. As various application areas continue to develop, demand is expected to increase further. To meet the market demand for high-end, differentiated bio-based PTT series products and to fully leverage Yizheng Chemical’s accumulated technological advantages, the company plans to invest 47.378 million yuan to construct a facility within its existing plant premises. This facility will have an annual production capacity of 5,000 tons of green, bio-based PO3G-PTT high-performance elastomers. The highlight of this project is the use of bio-based PO3G (polytrimethylene ether glycol) as a key raw material.
