On May 8, the award ceremony and academic exchange meeting for the 6th “Min Enze Energy and Chemical Industry Award” were held in Beijing. Gao Dali and 11 other outstanding scientists and engineers from Sinopec (Beijing) Research Institute of Chemical Technology, who have made significant contributions in fields such as biomass energy, were awarded the “Outstanding Contribution Award” and the “Young Achiever Award” respectively. Chen Jianfeng, member of the Party Leadership Group and Secretary-General of the Chinese Academy of Engineering as well as an academician of the same academy; Li Yonglin, Vice President of Sinopec; Yuan Qingtang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Xie Zaiku, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Yang Weimin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, among other scholars and experts, attended the meeting. “The “Min Eun-tae Energy and Chemical Industry Award” is presented every two years, with two categories: the “Outstanding Contribution Award” and the “Young Talent Award”. This year’s “Min Eun-tae Energy and Chemical Industry Award” aims to honor those who have made outstanding contributions in areas such as basic research, applied research, and industrial development within the fields of energy and chemical industries, including biomass energy, bio-based chemicals, and materials. For the Outstanding Contribution Award: Gao Dali from Sinopec (Beijing) Research Institute of Chemical Engineering, Guo Kai from Nanjing Tech University, Liu Liming from Jiangnan University, and Xue Chuang from Dalian University of Technology. For the Young Achiever Award: Lan Xiaocheng from Tsinghua University, Li Na from Sinopec Research Institute of Petrochemical Science, Luo Nengchao from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qiao Fulin from Sinopec Research Institute of Petrochemical Science, Song Song from Tianjin University, Wu Yaokang from Jiangnan University, Wu Yuchao from CNPC Research Institute of Petrochemical Technology, and Zhang Lei from Sinopec (Dalian) Research Institute of Petrochemical Technology. It is understood that these 12 awardees have achieved remarkable results in the cutting-edge fields of biomass fuels and bio-based organic chemicals. Their achievements include: the regulation of the degradation properties of biodegradable materials and their application development; the development of bio-based materials using microfluidic technology; the creation and application of microbial cell factories for producing chemical products; multidimensional design, regulation, and application of key processes in biomanufacturing; the production of high-value chemicals from biomass; the development of low-carbon fuel products and potential for carbon reduction; the use of photocatalysis to convert biomass into fuels and polymer monomers; the creation of bio-based green chemicals and their application in improving yield and soil remediation; the catalytic conversion of biomass to produce high-value chemicals; the development and application of metabolic reprogramming systems based on Bacillus subtilis for biomanufacturing; technologies for producing high-value naphthalene derivatives; and techniques for synthesizing bio-based polylactic acid. Chen Jianfeng, Secretary-General of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, stated that the establishment of the \"Min Enze Energy and Chemical Industry Award\" reflects Mr. Min Enze’s noble commitment to China’s scientific endeavors and his great character; it is in line with the strategic requirements of innovation-driven development as well as the strategic focus on addressing major needs. By leveraging the \"Min Enze Energy and Chemical Industry Award\" as a platform, and through close cooperation and complementary strengths between Sinopec and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, it is certain to promote the development of China’s biomass energy and bio-based chemical industries, and accelerate the industrialization of these fields. Li Yonglin, vice president of Sinopec, said that for a long time, Sinopec has taken it as its responsibility to ensure a stable supply of energy. The company has strived to build an open, collaborative, and efficient system for scientific and technological innovation, stimulated the creativity of its talents, created a favorable environment for innovation, and accelerated the development of a world-class hub for energy and chemical industry innovation, thereby making significant contributions to ensuring energy security. By leveraging Sinopec’s strengths in areas such as scientific research and development, engineering design, and industrialization, we can make greater contributions to advancing technological progress in China’s energy and chemical industry and to accelerating the achievement of high levels of technological self-reliance and strength. Mr. Min Enze was the founder of catalytic application science in oil refining in our country, and a leading figure in China’s petroleum and petrochemical science community. He dedicated his entire life to advancing basic research, applied research, and industrial development in fields such as biomass energy, bio-based chemicals, and materials within the energy and chemical industry. Mr. Min Enze was awarded the **Top Science and Technology Award in 2007, and was named one of the “Most Dedicated Strivers” in 2019. In 2013, at the initiative of Mr. Min and with his personal savings, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Sinopec jointly established the \"Min Enze Energy and Chemical Engineering Award\" fund to honor outstanding scientists and engineers across the country who have made significant contributions to research, development, and industrialization in the field of energy and chemical engineering. The council is based at Sinopec, while the evaluation committee is located at the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It includes a nomination committee and an expert committee, which are composed of academicians and experts with high expertise in relevant fields from institutions such as the Ministry of Education, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and various universities. Since its establishment, 24 winners have been selected for the “Outstanding Contribution Award” and 46 for the “Young Achiever Award”. By recognizing the award winners, it has played a significant role in fostering the scientific and innovative spirit among the younger generation of scientists and engineers, as well as in promoting basic research, applied research, and industrial development in fields such as biomass energy, bio-based chemicals, and materials within China’s energy and chemical industry. It has received high recognition and widespread praise from the industry. After the award ceremony, the winners of the 6th Min Eun-tae Energy and Chemical Industry Award engaged in academic exchanges on the latest advancements in the fields of biomass fuels and bio-based chemicals and materials.
