In early August, the pre-deethanization pre-hydrogenation catalyst BC-H-22A, independently developed by the Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Technology, was put into use in an ethylene plant abroad. This is the first time that a domestic catalyst of this type has been used on an industrial scale abroad. The results show that this catalyst performs excellently and possesses good stability, marking BIC’s entry into the overseas market in the field of selective hydrogenation of acetylene. In recent years, as the use of lighter feedstocks for ethylene cracking has become more common and the cost advantages of cracking light hydrocarbons have become apparent, the construction of pre-deethanization units in China has continued to advance. Multiple ethylene production facilities have adopted a pre-hydrogenation process prior to pre-deethanization, with catalysts previously being imported. After years of experimental research, Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology developed the BC-H-22A catalyst, the only domestically produced pre-deethanization and pre-hydrogenation catalyst. It was successfully applied in the ethylene production unit connected to a 400,000-ton-per-year styrene production plant in China, providing strong technical support for the successful commissioning of that plant. Next, BEIC will focus on market demands, continuously improve the performance of catalysts, and expand their application scenarios, thereby contributing to the development of ethylene technology.
