Nanhua octenal hydrogenation catalyst used again

On March 31, the NCH6-2A octenal gas-phase hydrogenation catalyst, independently developed by the R&D institute of Nanhua Company, had been in use at Tianjin Bohua Yongli Chemical Co., Ltd.’s 500,000 tons per year octanol production facility for one month. The device operates smoothly and efficiently, and the octanol product produced meets the standards for premium Grade I products as specified by national regulations. 　　The octenal hydrogenation catalyst is the \"core\" of octanol production, and its performance directly determines the production efficiency of the facility as well as the quality of the product. For a long time, the core hydrogenation catalysts used in large-scale octanol production facilities in China have had to be imported, resulting in high procurement costs and long delivery times; this has become a bottleneck that hinders the autonomy and control over the high-end alcohol industry chain. 　　The South China Research Institute has been deeply involved in the field of hydrogenation catalysis for many years; the NCH6-2A catalyst developed this time is a fully liquid-resistant copper-based catalyst. From formula design and preparation processes to actual production and application, the core technologies of this catalyst are 100% under independent control. As verified through industrial testing, this catalyst meets and in some cases exceeds the standards of international advanced products in terms of key parameters such as activity, selectivity, stability, and mechanical strength. At the same time, this catalyst possesses the ability to switch flexibly between butyraldehyde/octenal hydrogenation, meeting the production requirements of various applications and thereby greatly enhancing the operational flexibility of the plant. Since its first application in large-scale butyl octanol plants in China in 2017, this series of catalysts has been adopted in multiple large-scale octanol plants across the country, including Luxi Chemical, Daqing Petrochemical, and Tianjin Bohua Yongli, serving a total production capacity of over one million tons.
