On September 29, the inauguration ceremony for the desulfurization and alkylation unit of the transformation and upgrading project at Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical’s Luyou and Luyan plants was held at Shengli Refinery. Li Gang, assistant to the general manager of Sinopec Group Company, representative of the Qilu Branch and secretary of its Party committee, announced the official commencement of construction of the facility. The commencement of construction of the desulfurization and alkylation unit for coker liquefied gas represents a key milestone as the Lu Oil and Lu Refining project moves from the stage of conceptual planning to actual construction. It is also a significant turning point for Qilu Petrochemical Company in its journey toward transformation and upgrading. It marks the official transition of the Lu Oil and Lu Refining project, a major undertaking that has attracted significant attention from both the enterprise and the local community, from the intense preparatory phase to the actual construction phase. The Luoyou Luolian transformation and upgrading technical renovation project is a significant achievement of the deeper strategic cooperation between Shandong Province and Sinopec. As a strategic first step in the planning and development of Shandong Province’s petrochemical industry, the project involves the construction of a range of advanced facilities such as atmospheric and vacuum distillation units, high-end carbon materials production plants, ethylene plants, and related downstream facilities. This not only plays a key role in optimizing the layout of the petrochemical industry and fostering new forms of productive capacity, but it also represents a practical effort by China’s petrochemical sector to implement new strategies for energy security, thereby contributing to the sustained and healthy development of the national economy. The coking liquefied gas desulfurization and alkylation unit that is now under construction is the first unit to be built as part of the Lu Oil Lu Refining project, and it plays an extremely important role in serving as a model for future developments. Designed with a capacity of 75,000 tons per year, the commencement of construction for this facility represents not only a lead in terms of timing but also a pioneering role in terms of significance and value. It will set a high standard for the construction of all subsequent facilities, accumulating valuable construction experience; with a proactive attitude of going all out from the start, it will mark the beginning of the efficient progress of the Lu Oil and Lu Refining projects.
