On December 10, the Science and Technology Innovation Center of Sinopec Guangxi Petrochemical Company was officially established. Xu Chunming, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Wang Wenze, the vice mayor; Zhao Wenbo, deputy director of the Zhongma Qinzhou Industrial Park Management Committee; as well as representatives of leaders and experts from Guangxi Petrochemical, Dushanzi Petrochemical, the Petroleum and Chemical Industry Research Institute, the Shanghai New Materials Research Institute, Guangxi University, and Beibu Gulf University, attended the unveiling ceremony. Xu Wenqing, Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive Director of Sinopec Guangxi Petrochemical Company, Ge Shaohui, Deputy Director of the Petroleum and Chemical Research Institute, and Zhao Shuangliang, Vice President of Guangxi University, delivered speeches respectively. Establishing a science and technology innovation center is the only way for Guangxi Petrochemical to overcome development bottlenecks and achieve its goal of becoming a world-class integrated refining and chemical enterprise. Guangxi Petrochemical will use the innovation center as a platform to establish a forward-thinking think tank that leads the industry, a core platform for tackling key technologies, and a hub for generating original innovations, thereby enhancing the industry’s core competitiveness in an overall manner. Xu Wenqing emphasized that Guangxi Petrochemical will focus on stimulating innovation vitality by building \"three major systems\". First, it is to establish a collaborative and efficient innovation system for tackling key challenges. Focusing on six major areas such as oil refining upgrades, high-end chemicals, synthetic materials, and green low-carbon technologies, mechanisms such as \"project bidding\" and \"competition-based approaches\" will be adopted to overcome bottleneck technologies in high-end polyolefins and high-end specialty rubbers. Cooperation among industry, academia, and research institutions will be strengthened to accelerate the transformation of research results into practical applications. Second, it is to establish an innovation support system driven by talent, carry out special initiatives to motivate scientific and technological talents, improve the entire mechanism covering recruitment, training, utilization, and motivation, cultivate skilled technicians and leading experts at the front line, and create a cradle for nurturing talent. Third, it is to establish an innovative ecosystem for integrated development. By leveraging the advantages of the Beibu Gulf ports, technological achievements are promoted to spread throughout the industrial parks, and joint efforts are made with upstream and downstream enterprises to create a \"research and development-production-application\" industrial chain, thereby driving the upgrading of regional industrial clusters.
