Environmental impact assessment application accepted for the renovation and upgrading project of Zhejiang Petrochemical’s integration project (Phase II)

On February 4, the Zhoushan Ecology and Environment Bureau issued a notice regarding the acceptance of the environmental impact assessment documents for the renovation and improvement project (Phase II) of Zhejiang Petrochemical Co., Ltd.’s refining and chemical integration facility. Project Name: Renovation and Upgrade Project for the Integrated Refining and Chemical Processing Facility of Zhejiang Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (Phase II)

Nature of the Project: Technical upgrades and expansion
Scale of the Project: To meet various oil processing requirements as well as the goal of reducing oil production and increasing chemical product output, Zhejiang Petrochemical is carrying out upgrades to its integrated refining and chemical processing facility, with the work being carried out in two phases. Upon completion, the capacity of this facility will remain at 40 million tons per year of crude oil, 8.8 million tons per year of PX, and 2.8 million tons per year of ethylene. Phase 1 of the project includes: the construction of a new No. 3 slurry-bed residue hydrogenation unit (with an expanded catalyst configuration unit), the construction of a new No. 2 oil residue gasification unit, the expansion of the heavy metal recovery facility for oil residue gasification, as well as the corresponding expansion of the sulfur recovery facility. This phase was approved by the Daishan Branch of the Zhoushan Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau in July 2024.
