The phased shutdown of the facility and the related cleanup work are expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026. The plant currently employs around 100 people and has long been an important part of INEOS Styrolution’s business segment. INEOS Styrolution is aware that this decision will have a significant impact on employees and their families, and pledges to provide support to those affected throughout the transition period. Steve Harrington, CEO of INEOS Styrolution, said, “There is a persistent oversupply in the industry, resulting in ongoing pressure on profit margins, which threatens the sustainable operation of our business in North America.” After a comprehensive assessment of market conditions, industry operational capacity, the cost structure of the plant, and its long-term development prospects, we have concluded that the Chanhon plant no longer has the economic viability to continue operating.
