The Sinopec Guangdong Petrochemical integration project, located in Huilei County, Jieyang City, is reaching a critical construction phase. It was learned today from Guangdong Petrochemical Company that on the morning of May 30, the 220 kV main substation of Guangdong Petrochemical’s refining and chemical integration project completed its intermediate handover successfully, becoming the first project to achieve such a handover. CNPC Guangdong Petrochemical’s integrated refining and chemical project is the “No. 1 Project” among the billion-yuan investment projects in Guangdong Province. The 220 kV main substation serves as the central station for power distribution throughout the plant; it is responsible for supplying power to substations in all areas of the plant, and constitutes the infrastructure necessary for the safe and stable operation of the entire petrochemical complex. The main substation covers an area of 21,976 square meters, with a total construction area of 12,025 square meters. It is equipped with 6 220-kilovolt main transformers, each with a capacity of 240 megavolts-amps, giving a total capacity of 1,440 megavolts-amps. The construction of the 220 kV main substation officially began on March 30, 2020; it involved 25 unit projects, 120 sub-projects, and 1,427 sub-sub-projects, and the entire construction process took 14 months. During the project implementation, all parties involved overcame the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and extreme heat. Faced with initial challenges such as lack of access to water, electricity, and roads, they completed the pile foundation work 15 days ahead of schedule. During the foundation-laying and main structure construction phases, challenges such as a tight schedule and high staff turnover were overcome, and the topping out of the main structure was completed on schedule on October 15, 2020. During the equipment installation phase, in the face of issues such as the centralized arrival of equipment, deliveries approaching the Spring Festival, and delays in the arrival of some equipment, with the strong support of the owner and supervisor, the project team members gave up their Spring Festival holidays and worked continuously, completing the interior installation work for all 96 compartments as well as the cable laying tasks within 28 days.
