Correct method for installing the bolts of a diaphragm coupling: Pass the bolts from outside the small hole in the flange, then into the hole in the diaphragm (pay attention to the orientation of the diaphragm; it is composed of multiple thin sheets held together by rivets and rivet washers. The rivet washers should make contact with the buffer sleeve, otherwise it will affect the service life of the rivet assembly). Then pass the bolts from outside the large hole in the other flange, insert the buffer sleeve and elastic washer, and tighten the nuts. Be careful not to allow the bolts to rotate during tightening. When installing the bolts, always pay attention to their orientation – installing them in the wrong direction can cause the diaphragm to twist, and over time this can lead to damage to the surfaces where the diaphragm meets the bolts as well as to the small holes in the half-shaft connections. Because the surface of the fitting area between the bolt and the flange is a critical area for transmitting torque, the integrity of this surface directly affects its performance in use.
There is a requirement regarding the position; otherwise, there would be no need for three protrusions and three recesses.
If you turn the diaphragm over, you will find that one side is convex while the other side is concave. This is determined by the way the diaphragm is installed. When installing the diaphragm, the bolts are installed in alternating directions – in other words, if the nut of the first bolt (which are all single-threaded bolts) is on the left, then the nut of the second bolt must be placed on the right. The fixing bolts include bolts, rivet washers, rivet sleeves, and nuts. The side where the rivet gasket is installed is flat, while the side where the rivet sleeve is installed is concave.
