At present, most catalytic units can operate for more than 2 years, but accidents such as excessive vibration and blade breakage occur from time to time due to wear and scaling in these extractors. A few days ago, during operation, the vibration levels of the extractor in our unit began to increase gradually. Attempts were made to address this issue by adjusting the flow rate of the cooling steam and adjusting the movable butterfly valves, but none of these measures were effective. As a result, the workshop decided to shut down the main extractor and switch to the backup fan. Since the impeller in use had already reached a service life of 6 months and had been cleaned of scale previously, it was decided this time to replace the impeller of the extractor. Analysis of the causes of this scaling: 1. Catalyst wear has led to an increase in the amount of fine catalyst powder. Over time, due to impacts, wear, and other factors, most of the catalyst particles become damaged, resulting in a decrease in their average particle size. This increases the amount of catalyst powder, and as a result, the concentration of this powder entering the flue gas engine rises, which is also one of the reasons for scaling in the flue gas engine. 2. High dust concentration is the direct cause of wear. When the dust concentration in the flue gas is high and the dust particles are large, failure to detect this situation in a timely manner causes the smoke extractor to operate under harsh conditions for an extended period, ultimately leading to failures. It is recommended that those without an online system for monitoring dust concentration in flue gas conduct regular checks of this concentration; this can effectively extend the service life of the smoke extractor’s rotor. 3. Regarding steam quality, the steam cooled by the wheel may contain water.
