How should the materials in contact with the medium, such as the cylinders of oxygen compressors and carbon dioxide compressors, be selected? Are there any other things to keep in mind?
Steel materials such as casings have nothing special about them; it mainly depends on pressure and temperature.
For carbon dioxide compressors, it is necessary to check whether the gas contains water. I once saw a set of carbon dioxide compressors in which there was a stainless steel coating on the intake pipe of the casing; the first-stage partition was made of stainless steel, while the subsequent partitions were made of carbon steel. Later, due to poor control of water content, the second-stage partition and the casing suffered severe corrosion. The partition was replaced with stainless steel, but the casing could not be repaired – only periodic restoration of the coating was possible
