Is this a cone spring seal? If so, how can I tell the left from the right?
When using cone springs for transmission, it is necessary to distinguish between left and right: for the sliding surface that faces the rotating sealing component, a right-handed spring should be used if the shaft rotates clockwise, while a left-handed spring should be used if the shaft rotates counterclockwise. If the sealing is not driven by a spring, such as using a key for drive, then there is no need to consider the rotation direction of the set screw.
Wasn’t this asked before? The threads on the diagram are right-handed. Rotate clockwise
