Modification of the seal on the air valve cover of reciprocating compressors: The air valve cover of reciprocating compressors is sealed using an O-ring. When the pressure in the unit increases and then decreases, the O-ring loses its sealing effectiveness due to heat. I would like to ask those with more experience – does anyone have any insights or methods for making such modifications? I’m extremely grateful!

The O-ring provides lateral sealing; if steps are machined on the corresponding parts of the valve cover and cylinder block, using copper gaskets for end-face sealing would certainly yield good results, though machining them on a lathe is a time-consuming process.

The new reciprocating engine valve covers are sealed with -O rings; previously, copper gaskets were used, which was time-consuming and labor-intensive. For the leak issue with the -O ring you’re facing, you can replace the material with fluororubber ; There are also measurements: the width and depth of the -O groove, with the wire diameter set a bit larger
I’ve learned about it. All the equipment in our unit is from Shenmu, and they use copper gaskets as well. What’s important is that large valve cover – it’s too heavy to lift without some help
Why is it necessary to renovate? Due to heating, the O-ring fails to provide a proper seal. Why does heating cause poor sealing? Is it the intake valve that is leaking, or the exhaust valve? Does this problem occur already during the original sealing of the new device?
