Why can’t a sanding machine operate without any medium, and why can’t air get into the grinding chamber?

This post was last edited by jmdc on 2018-3-16 20:23. Why can’t a grinder operate without any material, and why shouldn’t air get into the grinding chamber? When starting up, should the circulating cooling water be turned on first, the main unit first, or the feed pump first? What about the sequence during shutdown? If no air can enter the grinding chamber, then when a pneumatic diaphragm pump is used to completely remove all the material from it, won’t air be forced into the grinding chamber?
This post was last edited by Mechanical seal_CFVR on 2018-3-17 at 14:59. Dry running can damage mechanical seals! Before starting up, the circulating cooling water system should be activated first to prevent dry grinding of the seals.
