Are there any specific requirements regarding the orientation of the piston support ring opening in reciprocating compressors? Some people say it should face upward. Some people say as long as it’s not facing down... Can it face down?
It depends on what type of incision you need – an oblique incision or a overlapping incision
Whether it is a slanted cut or an overlapping cut, there are direction requirements for installation! Look at the drawings!
The opening of the support ring can be in any direction as long as it’s not facing downward. However, during installation, it’s generally necessary to position the opening away from the air valve opening, as the opening of the support ring after it is installed might get caught on the air valve opening, thereby increasing the difficulty of installation
When installing the support rings, their openings should be offset from each other; however, it’s not clear what direction the openings will face once the equipment starts operating. The manufacturer claims that the openings of the support rings adjust automatically during operation
For the two compressors I have here, it’s sufficient to offset the positions of the piston ring openings in order to reduce air leakage. Of course, it ultimately depends on the manufacturer’s requirements
The question is a bit vague – is it a piston ring or a support ring? If it’s a support ring, what is its general structure like? :) In the case of support rings, the orientation of the openings generally isn’t a concern; however, for piston rings with special designs, there are requirements regarding the openings. :)
As long as the opening of the support ring is not facing downward, it’s fine; there must be 120-degree support at the bottom. The end without an opening is lighter in weight, and after running for some time it may move to the upper side
