Why use an extended diaphragm coupling

I see that the technical requirements for some pumps specify the use of an extended diaphragm coupling. What is its function? If the coaxiality between the motor and the pump is not accurate after extension, wouldn’t making it longer only increase this inconsistency? Is it to leave a space for easy meter reading?
It is still necessary to follow the structure of specific examples; making generalizations is questionable.
Generally, extended diaphragm couplings are required to provide better access for maintenance; if they are too long, it becomes pointless. The diaphragm couplings chosen are all those for which the torque has been calculated
