The role of air compressors in industrial production is undeniable! Of course, this applies only to the present; we still don’t know what the power sources will be in the future. As essential pneumatic equipment for industrial production, when these devices fail and need repair, certain details are easily overlooked, which can potentially lead to safety hazards. So today, let’s talk about the details related to the maintenance of Borel screw air compressors that cannot be ignored: 1. When compressed air cools down, it is necessary to remove the oil-water mixture that has condensed in the cooler, air storage tank, and oil separator on a regular basis, at least once per hour. 2. Before starting the air compressor, water should first be filled into the cylinder and the water jackets of the cooler. 3. While the air compressor is in operation, if the cooling water supply is delayed, it must be stopped immediately for cooling. 4. During inspection and repair, special care must be taken to prevent wiping materials, wooden blocks, etc. from falling into the cylinders, air storage tanks, and pipes, as such substances may catch fire in compressed air. 5. The cooling water entering the water jacket should be supplied from a specially designed water tank that creates a pressure difference; this tank is equipped with a level indicator, and a signaling device activates when the water level drops below a certain threshold. A centrifugal pump can also be used for supplying water; it is not advisable to use direct water supply pipes, as it is difficult to determine whether water is flowing or not. 6. To prevent explosions caused by overpressure, the compressor should be equipped with calibrated pressure gauges and safety valves. 7. Water must not be introduced until the cylinder water jacket has been fully cooled, to prevent cracks in the cylinder walls. 8. When compressed air must be introduced into a system with lower pressure, a pressure regulator must be installed. 9. When cleaning the cylinder walls, kerosene should be used instead of gasoline, and the cloth used for wiping should not be soaked in too much oil. 10. After cleaning, the cylinder head must be opened to allow the kerosene to evaporate completely. 11. Drainage from the cylinder water jacket or cooler water jacket must be via an open flow in order to check the continuous operation of all cooling devices and measure the drainage temperature. The discharge temperature shall not be 20°C–30°C higher than the inlet temperature. 12. When using compressed air, the direction of the airflow must never be aimed at the workers. 13. The oil deposits inside the air compressor connection pipes must be thoroughly cleaned; depending on the equipment’s operating conditions, the cleaning interval is generally 3 to 6 months. 14. Install high and low level alarms in areas with flammable, explosive, corrosive, or toxic storage tanks. 15. To prevent the compressor system from being damaged due to the ignition of explosive gas mixtures, the following measures must be taken: The intake pipe should be installed in a location where dirty gases, vapors, dust, and similar substances cannot get in. The intake opening of the air intake pipe should be equipped with a guard to prevent rainwater, ice, snow, and other debris from entering. The air must pass through a filter to completely remove dust from it. The air coming out of the cylinder must be cooled to around 25°C–30°C using a specially designed water-cooler, in order to prevent condensation from accumulating inside the ducts. By paying attention to these details, being careful and thorough when maintaining air compressors can help reduce unnecessary safety hazards!
