When the 630kw motor was in operation, it experienced significant vibration, while the pump had normal vibration levels. After loosening one of the motor’s footings, the vibration returned to normal. Is there any further action needed once this situation is normal? Will there be problems if this continues?
Check if the motor has soft feet
It must be the weak legs; once the vibration returns to normal, can it keep running?
Once the soft feet are removed, it can operate normally
I mean, is it okay to just loosen one foot and let it run like that?
The motor is not level; a dial indicator is needed to re-check its coaxial alignment.
It’s best not to do such dangerous things
This is usually caused by factors such as uneven motor feet, an uneven base plate, or an inclination between the two. Laser alignment devices have a function to detect uneven feet; if not available, a dial indicator can be used on the hanging foot. By measuring the difference in readings before and after applying pressure, a shim can be used to level it out. Low-voltage, energy-saving motors are common, while high-voltage motors are less common – it’s likely that the casing was made with inferior materials, resulting in insufficient stiffness.
