Regarding whether the backup safety valve is in use

There are two scenarios: 1. When the discharge capacity of a single safety valve in a device or system is insufficient, two or more safety valves are designed, and all of them must be in use during production. 2. When the discharge capacity of a single safety valve is sufficient, an additional backup valve is designed for use during inspections of that safety valve. So, should this backup valve be in use or turned off during production?
It’s a rather awkward question. Our company also discussed this issue before, but no decision was ultimately reached
Since it’s for backup use, it’s not necessary to use it; there’s no mandatory requirement. Just to keep the equipment from coming to a stop
Since a safety valve is installed on the system, it definitely needs to be calibrated
It’s still better to use it; it’s like wearing a seat belt while driving – things that are useful should be utilized, so as to make the most of the equipment
The expiration date of the backups also needs to be checked; whether you use them or not, money is still spent on such checks. Since it contributes to safe production and doesn’t increase costs, why not do it?
Depending on the medium inside the pressure vessel, safety valves require one in use and one as a backup
