How does the slide valve of a propane screw compressor work?
Figure 1 shows the compressor operating at full load, Figure 2 shows it operating under a higher load, and Figure 3 shows it operating under a lower load. As can be seen from these figures, the adjustment of the compressor’s internal volume Vi is controlled by the secondary slide and the primary slide located below. Both the secondary slide and the primary slide are driven hydraulically; once the primary slide is in place, the secondary slide is also in place. The effective compression stroke is achieved through the position of the radial outlets in the grooves of the primary slide.

The piston in the reciprocating cylinder at the back end adjusts the position of the spool valve through the piston rod; subsequently, solenoid valves control the amount of oil on each side of the piston in the cylinder, thereby determining the position of the spool valve.

The lubrication valve of a screw compressor moves up and down: the upper intake valve flap opens, and the lower exhaust valve flap opens. As the rotor keeps moving, it keeps opening and closing.

It is actually a rotating piston; it was previously controlled by a four-way valve, but now it is controlled by a solenoid valve. The loading and unloading internal pistons move along the axis.
I don’t quite understand why adjusting the control spool can adjust the load. If the amount required by my user decreases, or if the pressure needed is reduced, I can simply lower the volume of air drawn in to achieve that; why go through the hassle of using a complex slide valve?
