Its welding properties, low-temperature toughness, and resistance to stress corrosion caused by impurities all make it easy to meet the requirements of processing, production, and operation ; 09MnNiDR and the associated forgings and welding materials can be produced in China, with relatively low equipment costs. The newly revised GB150.2-2011 states that the thickness of spherical shell plates should not exceed 50 mm; the thickness of the plates used for this ethylene tank is 66 mm, which is considered to be the maximum allowable thickness. It is assembled in three sections; the largest single steel plate has a length of 12.6 m, a width of nearly 3 m, and a thickness of 66 mm. This imposes higher demands on the production capabilities of steel mills – as thin steel plates have fewer inclusions and stratifications compared to thick ones, and their fiber structure is more uniform, resulting in better quality plates – as well as on the capacity of the rolling mills.
