The crankshaft bearings of the reciprocating compressors used in our factory have all worn out. Since there are no temperature monitoring devices in place for interlock control due to this issue, a serious equipment accident could have occurred. At the time of this accident, no significant abnormalities were observed in the oil supply pressure and temperature of the lubrication compressor. May I ask what caused the damage to the crankshaft bearings, and what are some effective solutions?
First, remove the crankshaft, replace the bearing shells with new ones, then clean the crankcase thoroughly; if possible, add more measurement points as well.
How long has your crankshaft bearing been in use? Was the clearance checked before installation? Has it been ground? I think during installation, it’s necessary to measure the clearances, grind as needed, and check the oil circuits. Check the equipment records for installation date, usage time, etc.
Poor lubrication; There is abnormal vibration; check the bearings. Additionally, the roundness and cylindricity of such a crankshaft shaft must be re-measured, and it can be assembled only after they meet the requirements.
There are no temperature measurement points at all, which poses a serious safety risk; we should add them!
When the crankshaft big end bearing is worn, if the oil flow is unobstructed, the oil temperature interlock should trigger an alarm. (Piece equipment lubrication failure) Personal opinion
