The four units of China’s largest ongoing ethylene plant, manufactured by SHENGU, officially began operation. On December 3, the IMPT for SinoShell’s Phase III ethylene project held a kickoff ceremony for this 1.6 million tons per year capacity ethylene plant at SINOPEC Engineering Co., Ltd. in Beijing, marking the official start of construction of this largest ethylene plant under development in the country. The ethylene plant to be built as part of this project, along with more than a dozen downstream chemical processing units, will make use of electric power and adopt carbon-reduction designs to promote the use of green energy, thus contributing to the implementation of the **“dual carbon” strategy**. The product line includes high-performance metallocene polyolefins and premium polyether polyols, aiming to reduce reliance on imported high-performance chemical products and fill gaps in the domestic market. CNOOC Shell Huizhou Phase III Ethylene Project will not only meet the demand for high-quality products in the Greater Bay Area, but also enhance the technical level of China’s chemical industry by introducing new processes and products, thereby promoting the development of products toward higher quality and greater differentiation. It is particularly worth mentioning that the first applications of α-olefins and polyα-olefin technologies in the Asia-Pacific region, along with the completion of the world’s largest single-unit metallocene polyethylene plant, will further strengthen SinoShell’s leading position in the chemical industry. Shenmu Group successfully won the bid for 1.6 million tons per year of ethylene compressors in this project, demonstrating its strong technical expertise and international competitiveness in the field of compressors used in ethylene plants. It also reflects Shenmu Group’s commitment to developing high-quality industrial equipment and enhancing its role as a key player in this industry. As the project is put into operation, it will undoubtedly bring about significant changes to China’s chemical industry, making greater contributions to achieving sustainable development goals.
Four units in the ethylene plant...? Isn’t the ethylene plant equipped with “three units”? (Pyrolysis gas compressor, ethylene refrigerant compressor, propylene refrigerant compressor) Which is the fourth compressor?
It can’t be the motor. Each compressor is equipped with a motor, and Kuangqie Shengu does not produce motors either.
Traditional pyrolysis gas compression units were driven by steam turbines; the pyrolysis gas passed through three cylinders – a low-pressure cylinder, a medium-pressure cylinder, and a high-pressure cylinder – all driven by a single steam turbine. Now, they are driven by electric motors, with two motors used for driving each set of cylinders. The term “four motors” refers to the fact that there are now two pyrolysis units
