As shown in the figure, this device is a self-priming pump for pumping wastewater. Question: What is the purpose of the rubber hoses connected to the inlet and outlet pipes of a self-priming pump? Thank you!

This post was last edited by foam_ZPTK on 2019-1-11 at 23:38. The siphon effect needs to be broken; there is liquid in the chamber below the pump. If the siphon effect is not broken, the liquid in that chamber will flow back into the tank due to the siphon effect, and the pump will not be able to draw liquid up again when it is used next time. If the siphon is damaged, the liquid in the chamber remains there, allowing it to be used directly next time.
It’s actually useless to seal off the air; just remove the rubber tube and seal the holes at both ends with bolts, which won’t prevent liquid from being poured in
