Is it necessary to turn the flywheel of a reciprocating compressor that has been shut down for 3 days to rotate it? If it’s not necessary, how often does the engine need to be turned over while parked? Thank you for the answer! !
1. Prolonged shutdown: Before shutting down, manually operate the oiler to supply an adequate amount of lubricating oil to the cylinder bores and packing. Thereafter, it is also necessary to manually operate the oiler regularly (once a week is recommended) to lubricate the cylinders and packing, and turn the shaft 1-1/4 turns. 2. Maintenance of units that are stored for long periods: Clean and rust-proof all components in accordance with the unit’s operation manual, and take necessary measures to protect the units from exposure to sunlight, rain, wind, sand, or harmful gases in the atmosphere. No need for turning the shaft.
A short stop of 3 days requires no crank rotation. I have seen reciprocating compressors for hydrogen production from methanol not being turned over during short periods of shutdown.
